Spanish
Throughout my education at my previous school, starting from kindergarten, I had been learning Spanish. I feel that those six years of education gave me a good base for my Spanish development, however, I feel that this year I was allowed to start building off of that base. Together with my dedicated teacher, I slowly began to refresh and re-learn all the subjects I had touched on in school, and later, I began exploring new subjects and deepening my vocabulary. I am very fortunate to have such an enthusiastic, caring, and passionate Spanish teacher, and I created this page to reflect all the creativity and color my teacher brings into teaching me.
Describing painted figures
These strange-looking characters were the product of just one of my many creative homework assignments for Spanish class. I was tasked with drawing/painting two people, to describe in Spanish. My creative mind reflected two, human-like creatures that I had lots of fun painting and describing in a video recording for my teacher. The video recording can be found under the section titled 'Mi Viaje De Progresso Lingual'.
Costa Rican Unit
My Costa Rican unit taught me all about Costa Rica and the traditions and attractions to see there. I think it is very important to learn not only the language, but also the culture, traditions, and ways of life of people who speak the language. This project gave me insight into the life of people in Costa Rica, and gave me the opportunity to explore so many different elements of Costa Rica, from listening to the language to learning about Carretas and the lush jungles!
Below is a compilation of some projects I completed during the unit:
Café Y Carretas En Costa Rica
'Café Y Carretas En Costa Rica' is a bilingual poster I made for Spanish class, during my Costa Rican unit. During this unit, I got to learn about the fascinating and colorful culture and life in Costa Rica. I listened to Costa Rican pronunciation and learned about many popular Costa Rican dishes before I made my very own Garbanzo Bean Soup! This unit was all about immersion in the life of Costa Ricans, and about understanding the true meaning of the essence of Costa Rica - 'Pura Vida'.
For this project, I chose to combine two of the four options of activities I could do after class. I made one big poster, on the topic of 'Coffee And Carts In Costa Rica'. Both coffee and carts are a very important part of daily life in Costa Rica. My poster also includes instructions on how to make Café Chorrizo, as well as a colorful illustration of a Carreta. The small pop-up on the bottom right corner is opened up to the drawing I made, which can be viewed in the second picture.
Mi Proyecto Final
'My Final Project' concluded my Costa Rican unit. It was a project about planning a trip to Costa Rica. Together with my teacher, we worked out the small details, like how long I'll be 'staying in Costa Rica', and then we moved on to the bigger details, like where I'll stay and what I'll do. We used sites like Airbnb and Booking.com to find hotels, restaurants, and flights.
The finished product of all the planning was a video recording I recorded, presenting my pitch of a week-long trip to Costa Rica in front of my parents. Below, you can find my Google Slides planner, which helped me plan out every detail of the trip, a script I had prepared for my presentation, as well as a slideshow with photos from Costa Rica, and finally, the completed video presentation. You can also find this video under the section titled, "Mi Viaje De Progresso Lingual".

My Journey Of Lingual Progress
Requirements For My First Video
Above are the requirements for a video I made at the beginning of my Spanish education. The video on the right is the product of this assignment. I like to think of this video as the first documentation of the beginning of my Spanish journey.
My First Video
I had prepared a script for this video, which I was reading off of during the recording.
Describing Painted Figures - Video
This video is the description of my second painted figure, shown in the second picture at the top of this page.
Describing Painted Figures - Video
This video is the description of my first painted figure, wich can be seen at the top of this page.
The First Version Of 'Describing My Family' Project
The 'Describing My Family' project was a creative assignment on the topic of describing people. For the two versions of the video, I wrote a script, played out by two people. The scene in the script is about a large family reunion, with one new person. I was supposed to introduce this person to my family and describe each family member's qualities.
The Second Version Of 'Describing My Family' Project
Using the same script as from the video on the left, I recorded another video with my dad, to rehearse pronunciation. I wanted to thank my sister, for rehearsing the first video with me, and my dad for playing the role of the new family member in my second video.
Mi Viaje A Costa Rica Projecto
This project took up a whole unit of planning and researching, but it was certainly one of my favorite projects. This project was a conclusion to my Costa Rican unit, where I learned all about Costa Rican culture, food, and attractions. To create this video, I worked on a script and PowerPoint for a few weeks, to create a detailed description and prompt for my parents to let me go on a week-long trip to Costa Rica.
This trip was, of course, imaginary, but when researching destinations, transportation, and hotels with my teacher, we sourced all the information from professional sites such as Airbnb, Booking.com, Trip Advisor, and many well-known tourist websites. The video above is a recording of a meeting with my parents, during which, I presented a PowerPoint with photos, accompanied by my narration, reading off of a Spanish and English script I had prepared. You can find more information on this project at the top of my page.
